Did you know? December – Seasonal Affective Disorder

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Seasonal affective disorder is a type of depression that is directly related to changes in the seasons. Typically, occurring in late fall and winter and improves during the spring and summer seasons. Signs and symptoms include oversleeping or difficultly sleeping, feeling depressed most of the day or every day, losing interest in activities, fatigue, changes in appetite, feeling sluggish or easily agitated. A specific cause is unknown, but some factors include changes in your biological clock, reduced sunlight, a drop in serotonin levels and disruption in the balance of melatonin.

Some lifestyle and home remedies include making your home sunnier and brighter by opening curtains, sitting by windows with available sunlight, getting outside often and exercising regularly.
